Setting

The Dark Sun campaign is set in the world of Athas, a harsh desert world where magic has drained the land of its life-giving resources. The world is ruled by powerful sorcerer-kings who control vast city-states and enslave the population. The campaign may lead to a change in the power structure of Athas or to the death of all characters.

Special considerations

Athas is brutal and unforgiving, and the campaign will reflect this. If you make grave mistakes your characters will die and on Athas there is mostly no chance of resurrection.

Slavery is a common practice in Athas, and players should be prepared to encounter it in the campaign. The campaign may involve characters being captured and enslaved, or encountering enslaved NPCs.

Races and character classes in Athas are different from other settings, it is also very likely that some of the characters will have psionic abilities.
